Cindy Mendez
PhD/ Nursing Science
Cindy has been a nurse for over 14 years, with 12 of those dedicated to the Emergency Department. In 2023, she earned a Doctorate in Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler, specializing in research and education. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Grand Valley State University’s Kirkhof College of Nursing. Her research focuses on health disparities and cardiovascular disease risk factors among Latino migrant seasonal farmworkers. Professor Mendez shares her motivation for a career in healthcare, stating, “Personal experiences sparked my interest in this topic. My parents were immigrants and spent over 30 years working as migrant seasonal farmworkers without health insurance due to their work status. Witnessing this and other injustices in the Emergency Department has fueled my passion for helping the underserved and overlooked in our community.”

Rebecca Erupe
MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC
Rebecca is a board-certified Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and co-founder of American Integrated Care Inc. A graduate of the University of Toledo and a native of Kenya, she brings a wealth of experience to her practice. After immigrating to the U.S., she enrolled in Kent State University to train as a Registered Nurse, graduating with cum laude honors. She later pursued further education at the University of Toledo, where she received her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on mental health.
With years of experience in the field of mental health, Mrs. Erupe has served at various esteemed institutions, including Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital, ViaQuest Psychiatric and Behavioral Solutions, and Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio. Her clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of psychological disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, somatic symptom and related disorders, feeding and eating disorders, sleep-wake disorders, and disruptive, impulse-control, and conduct disorders.
Rebecca is dedicated to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to her patients. She ensures that each individual receives the support they need for their mental health journey.

Margaret McKenzie
MA, MBA
Margaret serves as a Program Officer at Cornerstone Trust, a private foundation based in Michigan. Originally from Kenya, she is a seasoned professional with a proven track record in nonprofit organization management. Her expertise encompasses Nonprofit Organizations, Theology, Event Planning, Volunteer Management, and Public Speaking. Margaret is a robust business development professional, holding a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Aquinas College, as well as a Master’s degree in Ministry from Calvin Theological Seminary.

Sylvia Mupepi
RN, PhD/ Nursing
Dr. Sylvia Mupepi, originally from Zimbabwe, serves as an Associate Professor of Nursing at Grand Valley State University. Her distinguished career in healthcare spans across Europe, Africa, and North America. She has played a pivotal role in launching clinics in Great Britain and developing advanced nursing degree programs at multiple African universities. As a Fulbright Scholar and Carnegie Fellowship recipient, Dr. Mupepi specializes in women’s health, with a particular focus on cervical cancer.

John Jaiblai
BA
John, a Certified Professional Bookkeeper, is a Senior Associate Bookkeeper at Intuit. Previously, he worked as an analyst at Undercar Products Group, Inc. Additionally, he owns Jaiblai Business Solutions, LLC, an accounting firm. John champions entrepreneurship and financial independence within the immigrant community. He earned a BA in Business Administration from the United Methodist University in Liberia, West Africa. Residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he is married and has two children.

Dongo Pewee
BRE, MDiv
Rev. Dongo Pewee, a native of Liberia and co-founder of American Integrated Care, Inc. He is best known for his dedication to higher education and maternal health advocacy in sub-Saharan Africa. He is currently spearheading a project to establish an institution of higher learning focused on advancing healthcare, food security, and economic growth in West Africa. Rev. Pewee brings a wealth of leadership and entrepreneurial experience, having served as a pastor in Canada, Illinois, and Michigan, and founded businesses such as Castlewood Inn and Suites and Great Lakes Auto Import, Inc. A cross-cultural communicator, he has extensive experience working with diverse ethnic groups. He holds a Bachelor of Religious Education from Kuyper College and a Master of Divinity from Calvin Theological Seminary.

Elisa Mantinez
Environmental Service Technician
Elisa serves as the Environmental Service Supervisor at Corewell Health. Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, Elisa moved to the U.S. with her family as migrant farm workers. She recalls her early years working alongside her parents, picking blueberries on various farms. Reflecting on those times, she says, “We traveled from Florida to Michigan and back, working on farms, yet my family never had health insurance. No farm offered such benefits. And it is still happening today.” Her childhood experiences have fueled her drive to advocate for health equity for migrant farm workers and the Hispanic community. Elisa is married to Luis Zavala, a swimming pool builder, and they have two sons, Luis Zavala Jr. and Hector Zavala.
